WBMK Langebaan Gymkhana 2010

I’ve never been to a Langebaan gymkhana that hasn’t started with grey skies, yet all of them have ended with breathtaking west coast sun-downs.  And like the weather, the racing also just keeps on getting better as the day goes on.  Last weekend, the last round of the 2010 series at Flamingos proved to be the same as before.  Of course an added bonus was another outing for South-African WRC driver John Williams, as well as four times world karting champion Wesleigh Orr.  This time they competed in cars borrowed from other competitors, as Patrick Vermaak would say “In true gymkhana spirit”

With some good racing during the day, half a missing bonnet guard from Richard and Jacolien Hough’s Opel Corsa, and the added benefit of a fourth round, this proved to be an entertaining day for the winner Izak van Zyl and all competitors and spectators.  I’ve also seen the truly west-coast way of enjoying a day’s racing, take your bakkie, hook your boat on use that as “hospitality unit”

This gymkhana was the second one to be recorded for In full HD for a highlight packaged to be shown on SuperSport at a later stage, the WBMK gymkhana series is also the first national motorsport competition to be recorded in full HD and I for one am looking forward to seeing this on television.

This album concludes the 2010 WBMK Gymkhana series and I’m certainly looking forward to the 2011 championship.  As always, all event images and full article can be found on www.wbmk.co.za
