WBMK Gymkhana series - Round 4 (2010) - Fairbridge mall - Brackenfell

Motorsport, it’s been too long that I’ve been gone. Twenty-two months ago I took a break from the “Exclusive Racing Development” project which carried on for way to long. The first Worcester Gymkhana turned out to be my last motorsport event for a while. At that stage, I needed to take a break from all of it, to say that it was a very trying twelve months prior to that is probably the biggest understatement of the millennium. Politics, distrust, the end of a friendship with someone I considered to be like a younger brother, constant uncalled for verbal attacks on me and more importantly my now wife and some very close friends didn’t make things easier for me either. That last event really felt more like a prison-sentence than something I loved doing. I needed a clean break and I decided to do just that. At that stage, slipping away from the entire scene and doing my own thing felt right to me.

I did in fact discover that I missed the whole vibe, I missed the sound of engines, I missed the smell of rubber and I missed getting close to the action. I discovered that bouncing back will take more than just saying I’m back. A month ago, a couple of us again started talking about me getting involved again and thanks to Robin Wakefored and Patrick Vermaak I joined the crew for the Fairbridge Mall gymkhana this past weekend. This time covering the event for the organisers, Witzenberg Motor club.

I felt good to be back, I will admit I felt a bit nervous the two days before race day, but that all changed on Saturday morning. Sometimes I feel that rediscovering your passion for something is a better feeling than the initial discovery. That’s probably the best way I can explain this. Here are some of the photos. The full gallery can be found on www.wbmk.co.za under the gallery section. Good news is I’ll be back for the foreseeable future, hope to see some of you at the next event in Stellenbosch at the end of August
